Wednesday 3.22.17

We had a very busy day (usual for Wednesday).

In LA, after some word study, we started our read aloud Sees Behind Trees. We paid particular attention to who where and when (something readers of historical fiction need to do). Then we started our book club groups. Students read a few pages and assigned pages to be read for tomorrow.  Later, in seminar, many of us got to finish this reading.  We meet again tomorrow.

In social studies, we began with a fun quiz challenge - how many states can you name. Mr. Hamilton stopped by and gave it a try - he got them all. We then continued to work on our atlas packets about the U.S. We are revisiting our map skills and US geography.

Homework:
Science - there is a science test tomorrow. Tonight write everything you know about why an object sinks or floats.

LA - make sure your book club pages are finished, then read in your choice book. Make sure you are reading for at least 20 minutes. Be ready to record tomorrow.

Thursday 3.16.17

Well this has been quite the snow adventure. Today we had delayed start, so we had every class, but they were squished.

In LA we started our Biblionasium virtual book shelves. Students will be choosing 10 books to ready before the end of summer. More is welcome. At least 5 should be in their lexile range, which we learned from our Star Reading Assessments and we should have at least 5 different genres including 1 non-fiction.  We will work on these lists for a few days and they are changeable.

Fantastic heard the book talk about our next reading club books, Native American historical fiction is the theme. Excellent will hear the book talk tomorrow and both groups will fill out a ballot for the top 5.  Ms. Lamb will make groups that start next week.

We had a very brief library book talk from Ms. Babbitt and celebrated Grace and Hailey each turning 11!

Homework:

Math: Skill sheet NOW DUE TUESDAY DURING SEMINAR

LA: Reading novel - be ready to record tomorrow what you read tonight.
Word study done through Day 3.

Tomorrow is a half day due to parent conferences.  The day ends at 11:45.

Tuesday March 14

We had a great Monday. Ms. Lamb needed to wring some final assessments out of a few folks (late, were absent...etc.) so many students worked on edutyping and started investigating their new project "Something I want to know more about"

You can still sign up for a parent conference on Friday Marcy 17  http://signup.com/go/FfwE6s

We have also been checking in with parents via email and phone so please let us know if you would like to do that. Report cards are being mailed out on Wednesday (possibly Thursday since today is a snow day.)

I hope you are enjoying your snow day. Ms. Lamb will be emailing any students with missing work, so students might check their email if they can.

Homework:
Skill sheet in math due Friday - you can skip the angles on the back unless we get to it this week

LA - read - remember we are now recording daily so be ready to write down what you read tomorrow. Also, be looking for your books. You will make a virtual bin of 10 books to finish by the end of the summer.

Edutyping - do some - we need to be typing 30 words per minute with 80% accuracy by 6th grade. Practice and use all of your fingers and sit properly.

Enjoy your day off.
