Today we started fantasy book groups. Along with discussing our Global Read Aloud book The Wild Robot, we will also be reading, with one to three partners, and discussing our own fantasy novels. Titles include: Splendors and Glooms, The Lightning Thief, The Sisters' Grimm - Fairy-tale Detectives, The Wish Spell, The Dragonslayers Academy, Wings of Fire The Dragonet Prophecy and probably one or two that I have forgotten.
We read daily and talk daily and write daily.
We also met, by video, our friends and soon to be penpals in Sardinia. Tomorrow, we will make our first group introduction video. Students will then begin working on their own videos and will be assigned penpals (and video pals.) Note: This is a separate project from our Global Read Aloud.
